We only have one world and we want to pass it on to future generations as healthy as possible. We take this into account in all the decisions we make and actions we take. Because sustainability is not an ad hoc action, but requires constant attention and development. Together with our producers, employees and other parties in the chain, we want to increase the positive impact on people, society and the environment by obtaining our raw materials as sustainably as possible and reducing our footprint. We aim for 100% circularity of our construction raw materials. In doing so, we safeguard the well-being of people and nature.

Before the start and throughout the operation, our producers work on nature development. They structurally consider flora, fauna and habitat. Recultivation measures after the exploitation of a site are standard. By replanting forest, creating freshwater basins and striving for high biodiversity of the landscape, among other things, nature remains in balance.

Our producers carefully weigh the use of renewable energy such as solar collectors, hydropower from rivers and wind power. They avoid production of low-grade products from valuable raw materials. To achieve sustainable end products, they use the highest possible quality of building raw materials as much as possible. Virtually no residual waste remains. All products find a useful application in Europe. The exploitation of extractable raw materials is carried out in accordance with the applicable environmental regulations.

We transport building materials in bulk, i.e. by ship, as close as possible to the final destination. In doing so, we avoid empty runs as much as possible, maintain the economic sailing speed and work with clean ship installations. We only do car shipments if this is unavoidable.

Our construction raw materials have a very long service life and almost all products supplied are fully recyclable. The CO2 footprint of Bouwstoffen Unie is calculated and known. We link a maximum energy-conscious policy to this. We also bring special building materials onto the Dutch market, which functionally contribute to a more sustainable living environment and lead to a reduction in CO2 emissions.

Bouwstoffen Unie makes every effort to deliver the highest quality in accordance with the quality requirements and with the appropriate certifications.

The majority of our aggregates are KOMO product certified. This confirms and guarantees a high degree of reliability and constancy of our product quality. The KOMO product certificates can be found with the various products.

We can demonstrate the very low environmental impact of most of our building materials through Lyfe Cycle Analyses and Environmental Product Declarations. These lead to the Environmental Cost Indicator, or MKI value.

The Environmental Cost Indicator (EQI) summarizes all environmental impacts into a single score and is expressed in euros. It weighs all relevant environmental impacts, which occur during the life cycle of a product and adds them up to a single score. It provides a unified outcome that helps us and our customers achieve sustainable, circular solutions.

We can calculate the MKI value of the product itself, as well as the transportation portion by large and efficient Rhine vessel.
