E bottom ash

E- bottom ash is the by-product after burning pulverized coal, either together with biomass or not in a coal-fired power plant.

To generate electricity, biomass and coal are mixed and ground into pulverized coal that is burned as completely as possible. The non-combustible particles are actually a type of coarse sand grains and fall to the bottom of the boiler's ash pan.

After the burning process the E bottom ash cools, what remains are porous grains, erratic in shape, sharp-edged and angular.

E bottom ash is inert and contains no harmful components. It can be freely applied as a non-designed building material and can be used in concrete, road construction, sports field construction and horticulture.

characteristics

  • Low density, so reduced the weight of concrete
  • Highly porous, thus highly permeable to water
  • Secondary raw material, therefore highly durable
  • Many hollow spaces that keep a substrate mixture airy
  • Various grades including those complying with EN 13055-1 or EN 13055-2, among others
  • Can be delivered with NL-BSB certificate
  • To be used as lightweight fill material

MARKETS

E bottom ash can be used in several markets:

  • Due to its porosity, E bottom ash can be usefully incorporated into (lightweight) concrete
  • As a lightweight foundation material in road construction and under permeable paving
  • Its irregular grain shape makes it stable and permeable to water, making it widely used in the construction of sports fields
  • E-soil ash is also very suitable for horticulture. Because of its hollow spaces, water and air are retained, improving the functions of substrate and potting soil for the benefit of plant growth.
