Gravel for concrete

Gravel for concrete is mostly river gravel from the Rhine and Meuse rivers. The round gravel is optimally suited to be used in concrete because it is well washed; it adheres well to cement and leads to high concrete strength.

The massive round grains require relatively little cement to harden together. Bonding (adhesion) to cement and admixtures is naturally optimal.

Gravel mined in southern Germany is called Upper Rhine Gravel. In addition, we know common, Rhine and Meuse gravel.

Gravel is a sedimentary rock. It was deposited in the Rhine River via glaciers from the Alps. The grains have been rounded by water and ice over time.

range

Upper Rhine Gravel is widely applicable: the round gravel is commonly used in concrete. The round grain shape ensures quick workability and is easily pumped through a concrete mixer or concrete pump.

All quality classes of concrete can be produced with this hard rock. Gravel split is incorporated into asphalt. Because of its angular shape, it offers good stability.

Upper Rhine Gravel and Maas Gravel is available in grades from 2 mm to 400 mm.

The most common sizes are: 2/4 mm, 2/8 mm, 4/16 mm, 4/22 and 4/32 mm

MARKETS

Gravel is mainly used for concrete, which is produced in concrete plants and transported from there to the respective project.

Every conceivable concrete product can be produced with gravel. Stairs, balconies, piles, sewer pipes, pavers, etc.

specific characteristics

  • Round pellet shape allows for quick workability and is easily pumped through a concrete mixer or concrete pump

  • Because of its flow behavior, it is favored for self-compacting concrete
  • It is always well washed and dust free
