Road construction in the Netherlands is an important sector responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of roads, bicycle paths and other infrastructure. With a road network of some 139,000 kilometers, much of which is paved and intensively used, these roads need to be repaired or re-paved on a regular basis.
We are closely involved in these road construction projects as a supplier of construction raw materials. We regularly supply crushed stone and sand, which is mixed with hot bitumen to form asphalt. We also supply a wide range of road foundation materials. For example: Lightweight building materials: Lava and Yali®Bims, crushed stone (remains draining), and (Secondary) mixing granulates. This can be used under concrete pavement as well as under asphalt pavements.
The remaining paving is done with concrete pavers and tiles, in which also goes our (crushed) Gravel and Sand.
We are seeing increasing use of Secondary building materials and choice of building materials with low an environmental impact in road construction applications.
More and more color on the streets
In recent years, more and more color has been used in road construction. Who is not familiar with the red bike lanes next to car lanes. This red color makes it clear to everyone where the cyclist is allowed to ride and where the motorist is. Yellow bike lanes are also frequently seen. Furthermore, we also sometimes come across rainbow pedestrian crossings. These applications can all be realized with the Color Minerals from our range.
